TECHNICIAN TUESDAY: Angelo Volo
For this week’s Technician Tuesday, we headed over to West Herr Ford of Webster to meet Technician, Angelo Volo. Angelo has been on Team West Herr for about five years now but has been in the automotive industry for much longer than that.
Angelo’s automotive experience began in high school. His school actually had an automotive shop where you could take classes to gain experience. He mentions he’s always been drawn to cars, so he figured he would give it a shot, and it stuck! After high school, he attended Monroe Community College for their General Motors program and upon graduation, Angelo got an internship at a local Chevrolet dealership. After eight years at that dealership, he decided he needed a change. He’s always heard good things about West Herr, so he wanted to see it for himself. He applied to our Ford store in Webster and has been there ever since!

When Angelo applied to work at West Herr, his wife was actually an employee! She worked for the Accounting department in Rochester and mentioned to Angelo how nice of an employer they were. Angelo, a huge Buffalo football fan, was offered a signed Josh Allen football when being offered the job, which made his decision a no-brainer!
One of the best memories that Angelo reflected on was one of our Service Directors, Tom Druzynski, coming through the shop dressed as Santa during the holidays. “They were handing out Carhartt sweatshirts and I was just thinking, wow this is really nice,” Angelo says. He always appreciates the lunches that are bought for the employees and just the all-around sense of caring and compassion.

Angelo loves being a Technician for a lot of reasons, but he says one of the best parts of his job is finding something that’s a challenge but then being able to fix it. He mentions that he’s really good at electrical work and he really enjoys doing it. “I like that I actually know it’s fixed, because with electrical, it’s either working or it’s not,” Angelo jokes.
Outside of work, Angelo loves to spend time with his wife and pets! He has two dogs, Enzo and Monty, & two cats, Oscar and Penny. He and his wife love to travel, especially to Boston. They have their favorite spots there that they visit, and they have an upcoming trip planned there in a few weeks! They have a favorite sub shop that is a must-have when in town called Pauli’s. Angelo says he is of course a Boston Red Sox fan and loves to catch a game when he’s in Boston as well! One place on his travel bucket list would be Italy!

Angelo wanted to give a special thanks to a few people who help him when he needs it most. He says he appreciates Ryan Marko, his previous Service Manager, for all of his help and knowledge. Angelo also wanted to shout out his Shop Foreman, Jim Damon. “He knows a lot and he has a set way of how he wants things. I completely agree with his process, so it makes it easy to follow,” Angelo says.
When looking towards the future, Angelo has goals that he would love to accomplish. “President’s Club would be great,” Angelo says. He mentions that he just wants to keep getting better and improving his skills. Angelo says that he spends a lot of his job talking to customers about the repairs on their vehicles. “I love talking to the customers and showing them everything. It’s rewarding,” he says.

Angelo recently has acquired an Apprentice Technician who’s been learning under him for the last few months, Hardy. He says it has been a little bit of a learning curve to teach someone, but he likes to be able to teach an up & coming Technician the ‘right way’. We asked Angelo what a piece of advice is you would give to your younger self, or someone considering entering the automotive industry. He says, “It takes time. Learn everything you can and learn it the right way.”
We are so incredibly lucky to have Angelo on our team, and we cannot wait to see all that he accomplishes. Keep up the amazing work, Angelo!
